This unique piece has been recreated from the artist’s original sculpture. The body is Cornish stone composition, whilst the embellishments are crafted from Cornish tin and lead. The Latin inscription on the lead ban at the base of the monk is “Solitarius Locus Sanctus” Translated as “The Lonely Holy Place”, hence The Sanctuary. The artist has striven for both utility in purpose and beauty in design, for the sanctuary has a secret, it can accommodate a family of blue tits in its chest. It is recommended that the piece be placed in a sheltered position, avoiding strong sunlight and high winds.
