A Cornish composition stone roundel depicting Constantine The Great (AD 280-337), the first Christian Emperor of Rome with Minerva, goddess of Wisdom and protector of Rome in Battle, in a whimsical battle scene, thought to be the cleansing of the Barbarians. With lead Fleur de Lys embellishments around the outer rim of the shield, Constantine had chosen this emblem as a symbol of his purification by baptism when he embraced Christianity. (The lily being symbolic of purity itself). He also wore the Fleur de Lys on his tunic believing it would protect him in battle Composition Available Cornish Stone composition
